How Manuka Honey Helped Save My Mum's Toe

Hello everyone! I've been very quiet in the group this last month as I've been looking after my Mum mostly, but also my Dad. They both ended up in the same hospital. Separated for nearly 10 years and barely tolerate each other, but I ended up visiting Mum on the 11th floor with pneumonia, which she got from a previous hospital stay, and then down to Dad on the 6th floor where he was having his lungs drained. Very long story short, Mum has what she thought was an ulcer from using a corn pad combined with suspected gout. She'd been getting the wound dressed at the clinic but it was getting soggy and macerated. There is a lot of research behind Manuka honey so I got her the strongest one I could find at the health food store and we started dressing it with the honey. We saw massive improvement in just 12 hours. The burning sensation had stopped and the wound was healing beautifully. It's quite graphic so I won't post here but if you want to see the before and after, just send me an email. Anyway, fast forward to her being admitted to hospital for a hip replacement. A pin she had from a previous accident had snapped and is poking out of her hip. It's wild! They checked her "ulcer" and it turns out it wasn't an ulcer or gout but gangrene! Lucky for her, Manuka honey is also excellent in treating gangrene and saved her toe, or even foot, from being amputated. They put 2 stents in her leg and foot to get blood flow to her toes and I'm happy to say that she is on the mend for that situation. Unfortunately, the hospital stay for the stent resulted in pneumonia. Another stay in hospital and still no hip replacement. I called the ambulance the day after discharge from having the stents put in and it really was a very close call. She was not breathing properly to the point that she couldn't talk. The next day, I took a flask of tea with clove, cinnamon, mullein and thyme in to her to sip on plus some NAC. She went from not being able to speak to talking, albeit strained, within the hour. It took a full week on oxygen and antibiotics (which is standard in the hospital) to get well enough to come to my house. Once at my house, for 3 days she nebulised iodine, saline and hydrogen peroxide. She's now back on the farm and still waiting for the hip replacement. One step at a time! I should mention that hydrogen peroxide in a nebuliser is quite controversial and I'm not recommending it to anyone. I'm just letting you know that that's what we decided to do and she saw improvement. Maybe the antibiotocs were working? Every time she was short of breath, she'd pop on the nebuliser for a few minutes, manage to shift some phlegm and come good. So, what can I recommend from this experience? Include a top grade Manuka honey in your first aid kit. Brilliant stuff. We don't have to choose between natural medicine and the mainstream medical system. They can work hand in hand. Natural medicine can't help with a hip replacement. Severe breathing problems need urgent medical care. I'm incredibly grateful that Mum had access to both, and that she's still here to tell the tale.
